As a former fat guy with a lust for really good food, i can relate to a lot of people when it comes to trying to lose weight and keeping it off. I'm no different than anyone else when it comes down to avoiding foods that i know will add body fat. However the difference between success and being a lard butt is all about making choices and if you want to slim down and be healthy, you have to make the right choices when it involves your diet. For me the answer is eating an alkaline diet.

Eating a diet of 50-80% vegetables and fruits is a healthy way to get your body back to where it was in your younger years. It will normalize your weight while the reduced caloric intake will help reduce the inflammation in your body. this will also help minimize the odds of developing diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. These two diseases are responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths every year yet are not taken seriously enough by people in the western world.

The benefits of calorie restriction is very possible with an alkaline diet. Caloric restriction has been proven to be the only way to slow down the aging process. Eating a diet high in a wide variety of vegetables will help you to take in less calories everyday, keep you full, give you the nutritional needs your body wants and help you to stay regular in the bathroom. You will still be able to eat your favorite foods just as long as you keep your vegetable and fruit levels above 50% daily. EAT A DIET HIGH IN ALKALINE FOODS

Are Alkaline Foods Right For You?

As a former fat guy, i really think that i have had enough experience to say that being overweight sucks. Period. If an obese person tells you that they are comfortable with their physical condition then they are probably lying to you. Or maybe they are lying to themselves. Eating the foods that keep you overweight is a choice that you have complete control of no matter what emotional experience that you are hiding behind. Life is tough and you can't use it as an excuse to eat any starchy, fatty foods that you come across. You have to make better choices if you want things to change.

Things did not change much for me until several years ago when i read a magazine article about diabetes. This disease scares me to death. I see the people in the wheelchairs with the amputated legs and it makes me want to control as many future blood sugar spikes as possible. Diabetes is at an all-time high and it can ravage a once healthy body and bring slow or quick death, depending on how seriously you handle it. It is THE reason that i wanted to change everything about my health.

So my journey began. I didn't really know where to start but i knew that it had something to do with the quick and long spikes in blood glucose levels. I started experimenting with the Atkins diet and had success to a degree. The elimination of starchy carbs contributed greatly to my fat-burning efforts but their was a price to pay. I felt like garbage a great deal of the time and began to read how all that high cholesterol and fatty meat was not good for me. It was sabotaging my health at another level.

That is the point where i discovered veggies and alkaline foods in general. What i did was to modify the South Beach diet in a way that was best for me. By increasing the non starchy vegetables and decreasing the amount of starchy carbs in my diet, i was able to drop weight consistently. Red meat and fried foods were kept to a minimum as i began stuffing loads of veggies onto my plate at every meal. Wheat, rice and potatoes were kept at bay except for maybe two or three times a week as i turned up my fat burning capabilities and began to feel alive again. Because of the sugar content, i ate a little fruit but did not overdo it.


When you replace starches for non starchy alkaline vegetables, you are probably getting less calories yet more nutritional value per meal. This falls into line with much of the guidelines set by the Calorie Restriction Society for improving your health and possibly slowing the aging process. It appears that there is much research stating that less calories and more nutrition means better health. Eating a large amount of alkaline veggies and fruit everyday will allow you to do this while not being hungry all of the time. This method of eating keeps the immune system strong, supports body maintainance and uses stored body fat as energy. Change Your Life with an Alkaline Diet

Despite the ongoing controversy about the alkaline diet and cancer, no one can argue against the positive effects of eating this diet high in veggies and fruits. Even if this alkaline pH eating style does not have an effect on cancer cells, most cancer researchers still recommend a diet high in veggies and fruit to lower your risk of cancer and other diseases. We are much healthier when we eat a diet high in alkaline foods.

There is something to be said about the weight loss benefits of an alkaline diet. When you consume a diet of 70% alkaline food daily, you tend to eat less saturated fats and refined grains. This by itself will cause weight loss as your body gets real nourishment from alkaline plant foods. Unless you have really physical job or are training as an athlete, you probably don't need most of the starchy foods you eat. It only serves to maintain that roll of fat around your middle!

There are other benefits to consider. There is new research published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism revealing that an acidic diet contributes heavily to bone loss while an alkaline diet prevents bone loss. This information coud be a big help for older people who may be fighting osteoporosis. Bone loss is a real problem among older people in the modern world and maybe we could minimize the problem by endorsing a high alkaline diet among our senior citizens and those that are soon to be.

I have lost roughly 90-95 pounds since adopting a high veggies and fruit diet. Eating a high alkaline food diet has helped me to eliminated allergy problems, headaches and lack of energy. I have my days where i eat things that i should not but i feel that i can maintain good health as long as i eat a high alkaline diet of 50-70% veggies and fruit daily. Eating-Veggies.com
