The Flu and You

I always knew that a high alkaline diet was keeping my immune system strong but my current state of health proves it. I'm lying in bed with what at first appeared to be a bad case of the flu. It had all of the usual signs. Except when I woke up this morning the fever had broke. It had to be my good eating habits that made the difference.I still feel a little weak so I think I'll cut this short for today. My apologies. EAT ALKALINE

High Alkaline Pumpkin Pie

Pumpkin pie is one of those highly nutritious, alkaline foods that everyone loves and is very popular this time of year. Thanksgiving dinner would not be the same without it. Many southern families substitute sweet potatoes in place of pumpkin but either will do just fine.


1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin
1 (14 ounce) can Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust

Directions
1.Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Mix pumpkin, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, spices and salt in medium bowl until smooth. Pour into crust. Bake 15 minutes.
2.Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F and continue baking 35 to 40 minutes or until knife inserted 1 inch from crust comes out clean. Cool. Garnish as desired. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator.

Remember that even during the holiday season it is easy to eat a high alkaline diet. Eating a 50-80% alkaline diet year round will help you to maintain your weight and keep your immune system strong. High Alkaline Diet protects against Swine Flu

Now is a real smart time to start building a stronger immune system. The World Health Organization is saying that the H1N1 virus is "unstoppable". The WHO gave drug makers full permission to manufacture vaccines against the pandemic influenza strain and said healthcare workers should be the first to get vaccinated. Whether you get vaccinated or not, a diet high in alkaline foods will be your best way to soften the blow IF you become infected.

This virus is a global probem. No continent is unaffected. Every country will need to vaccinate residents against the swine flu virus and must choose who else would get priority after nurses, doctors and technicians. Green Tea and Prostate Cancer

I was reading an article that reinforces our many reasons to drink green tea. It appears that active compounds in green tea may slow down the progression of prostate cancer in men. Of course Green tea is alkaline and it would be a great addition to your high alkaline diet. Eating high alkaline foods (most are full of antioxidants) is an effective way to reduce your chances of developing cancer.

Researchers made capsules using green tea polyphenols to lower the level of proteins that tumors use to grow. 26 prostate cancer patients were tested, aged from 41 to 68. Each took the equivalent to drinking 12 cups of green tea -- for about a month before they had their prostates removed. Blood tests showed levels of three proteins associated with the growth and spread of prostate cancer fell. Few side effects were reported and liver function of the patients remained normal. This is just a starting point toward developing a newer and safer treatment for this form of cancer. Researchers said that it may slow the cancer but it does not shrink tumors. More studies will be needed to get better results.

Many men postpone prostate exams until it is too late. If you are over 40 years old then it is time to do the inevitable. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among American men. The American Cancer Society projects prostate cancer will be diagnosed in 192,280 men and will kill 27,360 in 2009.
