LOW CARB DIET LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE

I was reading a Reuter's news article about the positive effects of a low carb diet on blood pressure compared to the effects of a low fat diet's effects on blood pressure. This is one that i can testify for myself as my low carb/high alkaline lifestyle has helped me to burn off 85 pounds of ugly body fat! It also lowered my blood pressure to the point off not having to deal with those headaches anymore. Maybe the credit could go to the fact that i replaced most of my animal fats with healthy vegetable fats. Either way i feel much better.

I had tried low fat diets in the past and just didn't get the same fat burning results that i got eating low carb/high alkaline foods. I replaced refined wheat, rice and potato products with lots of veggies and fruits to keep me full. It can be rough in the beginning as your body tries to get used to the lower blood sugar levels and you experiment with how much food you need to keep you from being hungry. I simply ate more fruit early in the morning and between meals. My meals overflowed with veggies everyday as i watched my waistline slim down to a tolerable size.

I don't think you should eliminate all starches from your diet. I keep them to a minimum to allow my body to tap into its reserves of stored fat. As a former obese man who enjoys a good sandwich every now and then, i do eat 100% whole grain bread, just not everyday. Life is about balance. Eating a 50-80% alkaline foods lifestyle means that 20-50% of your food can be acid foods that you enjoy eating. Eat an abundant variety of veggies and fruits daily to help maintain balance in your life. EAT PLENTY OF ALKALINE FOODS

Evaluating My Alkaline Diet Progress

Since losing 80 or so pounds of ugly fat, i feel obligated to evaluate or should i say "criticize" myself on my progress with sticking to the alkaline diet plan. To say it mildly, i am a "fat boy" at heart and I'm not beyond slipping back into my old dietary habits. It takes discipline to stay on track and it does not come without some serious effort. All it takes is the sight of a plate full of macaroni and cheese for me to slip into the sinful delight of culinary adultery!

My wife likes to call me while she is out shopping or running errands and will ask me if there is anything that she can bring me back home to eat (she doesn't care for cooking). Those are the moments that destroy my diet temporarily. I'm getting pretty good at turning down her offers by always keeping frozen veggies available for quick stir frying. My skills for Asian stir fry is becoming legendary and that always beats the oily. gravy-laden stuff that people today call Chinese food.

With all this stuff being considered, i think i am doing pretty well with my alkaline habits. Its been quite a while since i squeezed into size 40 waist jeans and my days as a 300 pounder is becoming a fading memory. The tingling in my hands and feet is gone and so are the headaches that i used to learn to live with. Overall i think it is fair to say that I'm doing pretty good.

Fighting Cancer and Heart Disease

I was listening to the radio program "coast to coast am" last night and heard famous author Christian Wilde spreading knowledge about the effects of turmeric on inflammation. Christian Wilde is famous for his books on inflammation and heart disease and how inflammation is responsible foe most of the disease in the human body. If you simply buy a bottle of pharmaceutical grade turmeric and take it twice a day with meals, you can effectively reduce the odds of heart disease and cancer.

This is easy compared to eliminating your favorite cancer causing foods from your diet but reducing these foods is still something that has to be done. Taking turmeric along with omega-3 fish oils and a diet of 50-80% alkaline foods daily is the recipe for living a healthy life while minimizing the odds of death from the diseases that kill most of the people in the western world. Turmeric is becoming famous for its anti-cancer properties and should be consumed by every person who wants to optimize his or her health. Turmeric: Ancient Superfood?

Green Tea and Prostate Cancer

I was reading an article that reinforces our many reasons to drink green tea. It appears that active compounds in green tea may slow down the progression of prostate cancer in men. Of course Green tea is alkaline and it would be a great addition to your high alkaline diet. Eating high alkaline foods (most are full of antioxidants) is an effective way to reduce your chances of developing cancer.

Researchers made capsules using green tea polyphenols to lower the level of proteins that tumors use to grow. 26 prostate cancer patients were tested, aged from 41 to 68. Each took the equivalent to drinking 12 cups of green tea -- for about a month before they had their prostates removed. Blood tests showed levels of three proteins associated with the growth and spread of prostate cancer fell. Few side effects were reported and liver function of the patients remained normal. This is just a starting point toward developing a newer and safer treatment for this form of cancer. Researchers said that it may slow the cancer but it does not shrink tumors. More studies will be needed to get better results.

Many men postpone prostate exams until it is too late. If you are over 40 years old then it is time to do the inevitable. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among American men. The American Cancer Society projects prostate cancer will be diagnosed in 192,280 men and will kill 27,360 in 2009.

Natural Health Through Living Foods

Springtimes usually brings about a renewal of dietary vows as people want to look good in their summer swimwear. After a long winter of eating warm home cooked meals, it may be time to focus on eating cool, raw fresh alkaline veggies and fruits. For me that means more salads. I am extremely imaginative when creating my fruit and veggie salads. I feel more energetic and light on my feet when i have been eating a lot of salads over the course of a few days.

I don't personally endorse a totally raw foods diet but if it works for you then so be it. There is a strong argument that cooking destroys foods and makes them toxic.Between 50 and 80 percent of the vitamins and minerals are destroyed when some foods are cooked. Pesticides and oils break down into even more toxic compounds, which are more easily absorbed into our bodies. Free radicals are produced and cancers are formed.

With all the research available, i still have trouble embracing a totally raw food diet. It is well known from scientific research that heat breaks down vitamins, amino acids and changes proteins to the point where it is NOT usable by the body. This is found particularly in meat and meat products. When food is cooked above 117 degrees F for three minutes... or longer, it becomes becomes less and less nutritious to us.

Disease is caused by toxicity and deficiency of needed nutrients. This is caused by the choice we make to eat foods that are unnatural and missing essential nutrients. The problem is easily solved by removing the toxic and deficient conditions from the body so that the body can heal itself, fight off illnesses, and remain in optimum health. Eating more whole plant foods and taking quality supplements with your meals could help your body rejuvenate itself and become healthier.

With all of that being said, i still continue to eat cooked meals and love the flavor of good cooked food. I will compromise and try to fit more raw veggie salads into my meal plans and i will snack on more raw fruits during the day. Eating cooked vegetables is better then not eating any at all but a real effort must be made to eat them in their natural form. But the truth is that the modern world was raised on hot meals and it will be a hard habit to break. If we can stick to eating a high alkaline food diet and eat a large raw salad everyday then for most of us this is progress. Learn more at EATING-VEGGIES.COM

Women, Colon Cancer and Alkaline Foods

The evidence continues to mount as research study after research study carves the truth in stone: we must eat a a high alkaline, high fiber diet to fight cancer. A recent study was done on women and colorectal cancer. It has been discovered again that women who eat a lot of processed meats, red meat, refined grains, fats and sweets could be increasing their chances of developing colon cancer.

The study involved 76,402 women ages 38 to 63, with no history of cancer. The women were classified according to their eating habits. Those women whose diet included lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains, lentils, beans peas, poultry and fish were classified as following a “prudent” diet. Women who ate more processed and read meats, white pasta, white breads, white rice, desserts, high-fat dairy products and French fries were classified as following a “western” diet.

Following an alkaline food diet, which include healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables, olive oil, nuts and legumes can be a heart-healthy way to feed your family. Eating a diet of 50-80% alkaline foods allow you room to eat acid foods that you adore and sometimes crave. Eating 100% whole grain will provide you with the fiber needed to push out harmful toxins and other contaminants from your bowels while veggies and fruits supply needed vitamins and minerals that strengthen your immune system to combat free radicals. This helps to minimize the formation of polyps and the development of colon cancer. Eating-Veggies.com

Calorie Restriction with Alkaline foods

I tuned into the Oprah show a few days ago just in time to hear Dr. Oz talking about how calorie restriction can slow the aging process. Several other supporters of this dietary style also spoke. This anti-aging research has been proven to work in nearly every species tested, from worms to primates. Studies involving humans show extremely positive results as demonstrated on the show.

Eating a diet high in alkaline foods will help you to eat less calories while satisfying your nutritional needs. Alkaline foods are packed with vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals needed to maintain a healthy, young rejuvenated body. These foods are generally low in calories and can be eaten in abundance daily to stay full but without adding any fat to your belly. Eating-Veggies.com

Are You Eating Enough Veggies?

Eating a diet high in plant foods is essential to health maintainance and overall sense of well-being. It cannot be stressed enough how eating a diet high in alkaline foods can change the landscape of the health situation in America. Obesity is way out of control in this country and with the option to "supersize" our high fat, high sugar fast food habit, it doesn't look like things will be getting better any time soon. We have to get into the habit of eating veggies at every meal and snack on fruits in between.

I like to jumpstart my day with a couple of pieces of fruit. This helps me to accomplish my goal of 50-80% alkalline foods daily. I know that there are days when i might eat more acid-causing fruits(blueberries, plums) than alkaline fruits(mango, watermelon) but i feel that it balances out with my high veggie intake (i get real creative with my salads!). I don't refer to the alkaline-acid chart as much as you might think. I just concentrate on eating a high vegetable and fruit diet on a daily basis.

I made a reference earlier about salads. Salads made with dark green, leafy vegetables is a key to my improved health situation. I don't count fat calories in my dressings and i may even add a few croutons. The point is to consume lots and lots of fresh raw veggies. Try eating a high vegetable and fruit diet for 30-60 days and see if your health doesn't change dramatically. EATING-VEGGIES.COM

Are Alkaline Foods Right For You?

As a former fat guy, i really think that i have had enough experience to say that being overweight sucks. Period. If an obese person tells you that they are comfortable with their physical condition then they are probably lying to you. Or maybe they are lying to themselves. Eating the foods that keep you overweight is a choice that you have complete control of no matter what emotional experience that you are hiding behind. Life is tough and you can't use it as an excuse to eat any starchy, fatty foods that you come across. You have to make better choices if you want things to change.

Things did not change much for me until several years ago when i read a magazine article about diabetes. This disease scares me to death. I see the people in the wheelchairs with the amputated legs and it makes me want to control as many future blood sugar spikes as possible. Diabetes is at an all-time high and it can ravage a once healthy body and bring slow or quick death, depending on how seriously you handle it. It is THE reason that i wanted to change everything about my health.

So my journey began. I didn't really know where to start but i knew that it had something to do with the quick and long spikes in blood glucose levels. I started experimenting with the Atkins diet and had success to a degree. The elimination of starchy carbs contributed greatly to my fat-burning efforts but their was a price to pay. I felt like garbage a great deal of the time and began to read how all that high cholesterol and fatty meat was not good for me. It was sabotaging my health at another level.

That is the point where i discovered veggies and alkaline foods in general. What i did was to modify the South Beach diet in a way that was best for me. By increasing the non starchy vegetables and decreasing the amount of starchy carbs in my diet, i was able to drop weight consistently. Red meat and fried foods were kept to a minimum as i began stuffing loads of veggies onto my plate at every meal. Wheat, rice and potatoes were kept at bay except for maybe two or three times a week as i turned up my fat burning capabilities and began to feel alive again. Because of the sugar content, i ate a little fruit but did not overdo it.

When you replace starches for non starchy alkaline vegetables, you are probably getting less calories yet more nutritional value per meal. This falls into line with much of the guidelines set by the Calorie Restriction Society for improving your health and possibly slowing the aging process. It appears that there is much research stating that less calories and more nutrition means better health. Eating a large amount of alkaline veggies and fruit everyday will allow you to do this while not being hungry all of the time. This method of eating keeps the immune system strong, supports body maintainance and uses stored body fat as energy. Giving your body what it really needs to survive without excess is the key to healthy living. Eating-Veggies.com

Cleanse your body with an Alkaline diet

People in the western world are committing dietary suicide. We just refuse to eat right. Most folks are consuming a highly acidic diet daily and the lack of alkaline foods in our diet shows as we age. Many acid foods are refined and do not contain much fiber. We live with a slow or clogged waste disposal system when we eat poorly and as we age, adult diseases such as cancer, high blood pressure, arthritis and diabetes began to appear. As much information that we hear about eating a diet high in veggies and fruit, we still let fast foods and animal products dominate our diet.

High fiber fruits and veggies are important for cleansing the colon and removing possible toxins from your body. Accumulating these toxins over time can bring disastrous results to a once healthy body as systems begin to break down. Eating an alkaline diet full of vegetables and fruits brings fiber and much needed minerals and vitamins to a starving body. So much of the processed foods that are eaten do not have much "real" nutrition and even though your stomach feels full, your nutrition requirements have not been meet. Eating a diet of 50-80% alkaline foods everyday will better balance your diet's pH levels to help optimize your health.

Most vegetables are naturally alkaline. Some fruit is slightly acid forming. Most nuts and seeds are slightly acidic. Most foods that people crave are acid foods. You can eat your favorite acid foods just as long as you eat a diet high in alkaline foods everyday. Try asking your doctor if it is unhealthy to eat a diet high in a variety of veggies and fruits and hear what he has to say. Medical experts have been encouraging their patients for many years to eat a diet high in plant foods to ward off various types of cancers. It may be advice that could change the condition of the world.

When you eat a diet high in alkaline veggies and fruits, you unlock your bodies ability to cleanse and detoxify itself. Much energy is used to digest fiber-less, processed foods. This energy could be used for maintainance of cells and removal of unwanted bodyfat. If you really want to kick your diet into hyperdrive then try eating your alkaline foods in their natural, raw state. Eating-Veggies.com

Broccoli and fighting Cancer

My all-time favorite vegetable to see at the dinner table has to be the hated broccoli. Children across North America despise this most nutritious of plants and it has even been criticized by an American president. Yet ounce for ounce, this may be one of the most nutritionally powerful alkaline plants that you can eat.

The vegetable that we call Broccoli has been around for over 2000 years, The name "broccoli" comes from the Latin word brachium, which means "branch". Americans have been growing it for roughly 200 years. The first commercially grown broccoli was harvested in New York, then planted in the 1920's in California. It was then marketed on the East coast and by 1925 the broccoli business was well established. It is related to cabbage, brussel sprouts and cauliflower as a cruciferous plant and like most dark green foods, it has anti cancer properties.

Preparing this plant for eating is pretty easy and it can be used in a wide variety of dishes as it can be used cooked or raw. In America, broccoli covered in melted cheddar cheese seems to be the most popular broccoli dish. Chopped broccoli can be tossed into rice or pasta dishes and does well in homemade soups. I like to add it to my jambalaya.

People who eat an abundance of broccoli have seem to have fewer cancers of the colon, breast, lungs, and prostate. Broccoli contains indoles, which can help put a stranglehold on the estrogens that can promote the growth of tumors. Broccoli is also rich in sulforaphane, which causes cells to make enzymes that fight cancer and beta-carotene, another cancer fighter.

Broccoli is a good source of calcium and its calcium is far more absorbable than the calcium of dairy products. This is good to know since their are so many negatives to eating dairy including the danger of saturated fats. Dark green veggies are full of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients that give the body just what it needs to operate at optimum performance. Eating-Veggies.com

Eating Alkaline on the Grill

It's kind of tough to not eat a whole lot of acid foods when grilling during the summer months. Who doesn't have a weakness for the smell of chicken or steaks slowly cooking over hot coals. Even if you don't eat meat (or much of it), you still have to have some memories of a childhood experience that surrounds grilling in the family backyard. Eating a high alkaline food diet can fit in with having a little summer fun. When you grow up in the deep south or for that matter, anywhere in America, you have to eat a little BBQ in the summertime.

There is such a thing as healthy eating during the grilling months. I follow the rule of eating 50-75% alkaline foods daily, so eating a little grilled chicken or beef ribs fit into my diet with no problem. What i have to do is simply make sure that i always have a wide variety of veggies on the grill to dominate my plate during my feasting. Most people who know me will do the same when inviting me over for cookouts. Besides, who doesn't have any veggies at a cookout? Corn soaked in the husk and put on the grill is a staple at every bodies BBQ feast along with baked beans, potato salad and green bean salad. Every family has their own favorite grilling traditions and i don't mind sampling every one's dishes. And somebody better bring a sweet potato pie.

It's not a crime to indulge in a high acid diet one day or two when enjoying the company of family and friends during summer. Just keep it in check by sticking to your high alkaline diet during the rest of the week. Learning to cook your favorite alkaline foods on the grill is as easy as googling the words "grill veggies". The food network is always televising shows about grilling and veggies are covered all the time. Yes, you can eat healthy at the family cookout Remember. it's all about balance. You still have to enjoy life. Eating-Veggies.com

Alkaline Misconceptions

I really like seeing all the attention that is being directed toward eating an alkaline diet. There has been good and bad media commentary on this subject. I mean how could someone find something bad about a diet high in veggies and fruits? Anytime that the general public raises its awareness about consuming more plant food it is a good thing as my grandmother and most of the doctors of the last 200 years have been preaching the same thing, eat your veggies!

The problem that is beginning to "grind my gears" is that many medical professionals are bad mouthing the alkaline diet. These people seem to get quite a bit of media coverage for their opinions. They say that the diet in principle is a scam and that people should not fall for such diet plans without a medical clearance. If the public in general does not understand the scientific reasons for an alkaline diet, so what? Let's go with whatever it takes to get folks to eat right. Well i say again, which doctor does not want us to consume more veggies and fruit?

These medical "experts" are referring to the claims that eating a high alkaline diet will cure cancer. Supposedly cancer cells cannot live in blood with a high alkaline pH level. This claim is made on many alkaline diet websites. Eating a high acidic diet will offset your pH balance. Your body will then balance its pH by robbing its bones and teeth for calcium and take other minerals from other parts of your body for the same reason. The real reason to eat a high alkaline diet is to balance your pH through diet so that your body DOES NOT have to use its own resources to prevent acidity.

So now cancer patients have begun eating plant based diets like crazy. People without cancer are now eating high veggie diets to try avoiding cancer tumor growth and disease in general. Whether or not eating a high alkaline diet will cure cancer or raise our pH is a medical controversy that i can do without for now as i know that i feel better eating lots of veggies and fruits everyday. And besides my grandma told me to. Eating-Veggies .com

Balance your Diet with Alkaline food

Balancing your PH can be easy as simply adding more veggies and fruits to your diet. I seem to get a lot of emails that argue the point of PH balancing and if it leads to better health. Well, these people are just looking for someone to debate with and i don't give them much thought. They are looking for reasons to indulge in their favorite acidic foods. I never said that you cannot eat acidic foods, just that the majority of your daily food intake should be alkaline foods.

How can someone not want to take part in an eating style that maximizes your health? Eating a diet high in veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds is recommended by doctors all over the world and has been proven to lower the risk of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and many cancers. If you can make these foods 50-75% of your daily diet, you will lose drop pounds and give your body the nutrition that it needs to keep your immune system strong.

This does not mean you can't eat your favorites everyday! You can still eat about 30% of your diet as acid foods. That leaves you room for meat, grains and dairy products that you grew up eating. Just keep your diet high in alkaline foods and you will achieve optimal health. Eating-Veggies.com

Cardiovascular Health

The importance of keeping a good cardiovascular system cannot be overstated. Eating a diet high in alkaline foods and exercising continually throughout your life can make things much easier for you as you age. Heart disease is one of the major reasons that you should take care of yourself regularly. This condition is the number one killer of people in the western world and doesn't seem to be improving much. People just like eating poorly and not exercising too much to even consider the effects of such a lifestyle. Usually it takes the doctor to tell them that they have one foot in the grave before serious changes are made.

Eating a diet high in sodium seems to be a popular way that people can develop high blood pressure. Most of the frozen food products found at your local grocer are loaded full of sodium. Many canned foods are packaged like this also. High blood pressure is nicknamed "the silent killer" as people feel no symptoms and assume that they do not have the disease. It is recommended that most people and especially African-Americans DO NOT consume more than 1500 mg of sodium daily. A good way to do this is to eat a diet high in fresh alkaline foods everyday. Over-processing of food products is the reason for the sodium problem. We really do need to eat as many fresh veggies and fruits as we can everyday.

One of the most publicized effects of high blood pressure (and diabetes) is Erectile Dysfunction. This condition effects more men than previously known because of the shame factor that surrounds it. The new drugs developed over the last 10 years have revealed to the world the extent of this problem as prescriptions have gone through the roof. Most men with this problem have a high blood pressure or diabetes condition and did not know until they went to see a doctor about their bedroom perils. When plaque begins to block the small blood passage ways of the body, one of the first places that is effected negatively is the male sex organ (along with eyes, ears and brain. This is why the penis cannot become engorged with enough blood to maintain an erection. Eating a much cleaner diet and regular exercise can help to reduce the chances of this ever becoming a problem.

Eating a low saturated fat diet with lots of alkaline food and good plant fats and fish oils is an effective way to encourage a healthy cardiovascular system. An acidic diet of meats and dairy foods should be eaten sparingly. You should still eat your favorite foods but just keep them at a minimum if they are acid forming. Just remember to let veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds become the foundation of your heart healthy lifestyle. EATING-VEGGIES.COM

T'was The Season... Avoiding Refined Starches and Sugars

Well, its finally over. That lovely time of year when cakes and sweet potato pies start appearing out of nowhere. It's the way some people say, i love you. "I love you, so i baked you a cake!". It's the great thing that all married men love about the in-laws, they will send cakes and pies. I make it a point to offer cake to any guest that comes through the door, just to get rid of it before the next sugary delight shows up. When you gain weight easily AND diabetes runs in the family, you do whatever you have to do.

I figured i was doing better by eating pies as the different fruits and sweet potato would be healthier for me. And i ate quite a bit of fruit cake. Why do so many people hate fruit cake? I like fruit cake and will never turn one down. You haven't had good fruit cake until you've had a Claxton fruit cake. Its a standard in the deep south. I never really cared for most cakes and cookies. Just pie and lots of egg nog.

This is the point where character is defined. When pressed into a corner by your most delectable desires, your inner strength is needed to say NO to overindulgence. You have the power of choice. You will have to make a choice and you must make a choice based on what is best for your long term goals. The holiday season is not an excuse to throw away all we have learned throughout the year. The disciplines you have learned are yours to keep forever.

I guess that once you committ yourself to not eating a specific kind of food then you can keep your cheating to a minimum. Sometimes you can try a small "taste" of something without losing all control. It is the holiday season and you need to loosen up and live a little. Right? No, i don't feel guilty. Matter of fact, i think i did real well. Eating-Veggies.com
