Holiday Eating Habits
This is the time of year that we tend to sway away from our healthy diets and gain back the weight that you worked so hard to lose. The temptations set before you are not only on your dinner table but also are found in the refrigerator, cupboards and kitchen cabinets and can be found all day long. This lends itself to daily snacking. Being a formerly obese man, this is a difficult time for me. I gain weight EASILY and am not ashamed of my lust for good food.
The key to making it through this minefield of good eats is to consume as many vegetable and fruit filled plates as possible. A lot of it is just common sense, like restricting my egg nog intake or keeping the heaping portions of mac and cheese to a one serving maximum. For me the problem really lies with starchy carbs like rice and potatoes or creme-filled cakes. Eating a wide variety of veggies everyday keeps me full and allows me to indulge in a little "culinary sin".
If you stick to the plan of eating a
high alkaline diet, you will make it through the holiday season with little or no weight gain and your self esteem will stay intact. Don't stay away from the foods you love. Just remember that you are a healthy person with human desires and eating a couple of slices of your sister-in-laws sweet potato pie is alright. Stay focused on your veggies and your dream of looking good in well fitted jeans.

Reduce the Cost of Healthcare with an Alkaline Diet
The hot topic in the news recently has been healthcare reform and how to make healthcare "affordable" for all. I will be the first to admit that health insurance can be expensive. During tough economic times a family may drop their healthcare to survive economically. In times like this, the best healthcare may be a diet high in Alkaline foods. A healthy diet may be your best insurance against disease.
Eating healthy won't help much when one of the kids falls and breaks an arm or the man of the house takes a tumble off of the roof. Yet in the wake of what may be a "real ugly" flu season it would be great benefit to you and your family to boost your immune system. Reducing viral and bacterial infections through a better diet means eating a
diet high in veggies and fruits everyday. Making them close to 75% of your daily consumption is recommended by many heart disease and cancer researchers.
By eating this way, you will lose weight by burning excess body fat which helps in lowering chances of heart disease and diabetes. Veggies and fruit supply the body with needed minerals and phytochemicals that optimize body maintenance and performance. Eat raw nuts such as walnuts and pecans which contain healthy un-heated oils which are full of nutrients. Your diet is your first line of defense against the ravages of influenza and other diseases. Use this knowledge to reduce your family's trips to the doctor this winter.

Low carb Gingerbread cookies
Ginger is a very alkaline spice which is popular in
Asian dishes. Its medicinal properties are well known and is famous as an anti-
inflammatory remedy. With this being the holiday season, i feel obligated to offer a low carb option for gingerbread cookie lovers. It's allright if you get a little naughty with your diet during this time of year. Just keep it in moderation and eat lots of veggies and fruit when you get the opportunity.
-1 3/4 cups almond flour
- 1/4 cup oat flour (finely ground whole oats)
- 1/4 lb (1 stick) softened butter (if using salted butter, omit the salt later in the recipe)
- 3/4 cup granular
Splenda- 1 1/2 tbsp Brown Sugar Twin
- 1 tbsp
blackstrap molasses
- 2 tsp water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt (omit if you are using salted butter)
Preheat oven to 300F. Mix butter with
Splenda and Brown Sugar Twin in a large bowl. Add water and spices and mix well. Gradually add almond flour and mix to a stiff dough. Form into small balls and place on greased cookie sheet at least 1 inch apart. Bake at 300F for 20 minutes. After five minutes in oven, press cookies down with a fork in a
criss-cross manner. Continue baking, being careful not to burn. Makes about 2 doz. cookies.

Eating Veggies to Live Longer
A diet high in alkaline foods would improve the health of most of the people in North America. If people would only switch over to a diet of 50 - 75% veggies and fruits, we could greatly decrease the cases of diabetes, heart disease and many cancers. Today's western diet of high meat, dairy and refined wheat consumption is not even close to being called healthy by any medical expert. Yet nearly all doctors recommend
more veggies and fruit should be added to your daily diet.
Eating a diet high in alkaline plant food will give lots of the nourishment you need without the unneeded calories. A high nutrient/restricted calorie diet has been linked to antiaging. A great deal of these unwanted calories are found in processed foods such as refined wheat flour and refined sugar. Increasing your consumption of 100% whole grain foods will give you fiber that you need and help to efficiently deal with extra calories. Avoid refined sugar by eating more whole fruits everyday.
A great deal of the meat and dairy that the western world consumes everyday is unnecessary as it really contributes very little to our nutritional needs. These acid foods contribute heavily to our consumption of saturated fat, which may be the main cause of heart disease. The fats that should be consumed the most are the ones that contain Omega-3 fatty acids. Animal products should be limited as the human body works best when fed a high plant food diet.
