Cure ailments with apple cider vinegar
When i was a youngster (many years ago), we would take a small sip of apple cider vinegar everyday during the winter months, usually mixed in a glass of water. Drinking it straight was a little too much to handle even for adults. My grandmother swore by the stuff to minimize colds and flu. She even used it to clean things around her home.
Apple cider vinegar is a much used food/medicine during the winter months. Its ability to kill bacteria and improve immune strength is known by many. Apple cider vinegar is produced from cider of crushed and aged apples. The unfiltered product contains the "mother of vinegar", this is the part that has the most health benefits. I have never used the "mother" part of the vinegar but there are many people who will not buy the vinegar without it.
Many have said that a daily dose of apple cider vinegar in water helps get blood pressure under control. It is thought that Apple Cider Vinegar has such the ability to cure ailments because it causes one's pH levels to become more alkaline. Apple Cider vinegar is a powerful detox agent. It breaks down mucous deposits within the body. When it breaks down the deposits, it improves the health of the vital organs of the body, such as the kidneys, bladder and liver. By detoxing our body, we strengthen our immune system and help it to fight disease.

Low carb Gingerbread cookies
Ginger is a very alkaline spice which is popular in
Asian dishes. Its medicinal properties are well known and is famous as an anti-
inflammatory remedy. With this being the holiday season, i feel obligated to offer a low carb option for gingerbread cookie lovers. It's allright if you get a little naughty with your diet during this time of year. Just keep it in moderation and eat lots of veggies and fruit when you get the opportunity.
-1 3/4 cups almond flour
- 1/4 cup oat flour (finely ground whole oats)
- 1/4 lb (1 stick) softened butter (if using salted butter, omit the salt later in the recipe)
- 3/4 cup granular
Splenda- 1 1/2 tbsp Brown Sugar Twin
- 1 tbsp
blackstrap molasses
- 2 tsp water
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 1 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt (omit if you are using salted butter)
Preheat oven to 300F. Mix butter with
Splenda and Brown Sugar Twin in a large bowl. Add water and spices and mix well. Gradually add almond flour and mix to a stiff dough. Form into small balls and place on greased cookie sheet at least 1 inch apart. Bake at 300F for 20 minutes. After five minutes in oven, press cookies down with a fork in a
criss-cross manner. Continue baking, being careful not to burn. Makes about 2 doz. cookies.

Despite the ongoing controversy about the alkaline diet and cancer, no one can argue against the positive effects of eating this diet high in veggies and fruits. Even if this alkaline pH eating style does not have an effect on cancer cells, most cancer researchers still recommend a diet high in veggies and fruit to lower your risk of cancer and other diseases. We are much healthier when we eat a diet high in alkaline foods.There is something to be said about the weight loss benefits of an alkaline diet. When you consume a diet of 70% alkaline food daily, you tend to eat less saturated fats and refined grains. Unless you have really physical job or are training as an athlete, you probably don't need most of the starchy foods you eat. There is new research published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism revealing that an acidic diet contributes heavily to bone loss while an alkaline diet prevents bone loss. This information coud be a big help for older people who may be fighting osteoporosis. Bone loss is a real problem among older people in the modern world and maybe we could minimize the problem by endorsing a high alkaline diet among our senior citizens and those that are soon to be.I have lost roughly 90-95 pounds since adopting a high veggies and fruit diet. Eating a high alkaline food diet has helped me to eliminated allergy problems, headaches and lack of energy. I have my days where i eat things that i should not but i feel that i can maintain good health as long as i eat a high alkaline diet of 50-70% veggies and fruit daily. Eating Veggies to Live Longer
A diet high in alkaline foods would improve the health of most of the people in North America. If people would only switch over to a diet of 50 - 75% veggies and fruits, we could greatly decrease the cases of diabetes, heart disease and many cancers. Today's western diet of high meat, dairy and refined wheat consumption is not even close to being called healthy by any medical expert. Yet nearly all doctors recommend
more veggies and fruit should be added to your daily diet.
Eating a diet high in alkaline plant food will give lots of the nourishment you need without the unneeded calories. A high nutrient/restricted calorie diet has been linked to antiaging. A great deal of these unwanted calories are found in processed foods such as refined wheat flour and refined sugar. Increasing your consumption of 100% whole grain foods will give you fiber that you need and help to efficiently deal with extra calories. Avoid refined sugar by eating more whole fruits everyday.
A great deal of the meat and dairy that the western world consumes everyday is unnecessary as it really contributes very little to our nutritional needs. These acid foods contribute heavily to our consumption of saturated fat, which may be the main cause of heart disease. The fats that should be consumed the most are the ones that contain Omega-3 fatty acids. Animal products should be limited as the human body works best when fed a high plant food diet. Cinnamon and its benefits
I love November and the eating season that follows. My favorite aroma is the smell of cinnamon when you first walk into the house during a cold day. That means something good and sweet is in the oven. Cinnamon rolls, bread or a hot sweet potato pie can really make a cold winter day pleasurable. Let.s not forget a hot cup of Cinnamon coffee. Cinnamon has always been a favorite and i use it in many different ways to take advantage of its taste and health benefits.
Cinnamon is the bark of the cinnamon tree and when it is dried it is rolled into a small tube shape known as a quill. Cinnamon is available in either its quill shape (cinnamon sticks) or as ground powdered spice. When cooking, i prefer to use the ground spice just for the sake of easier handling and convenience. Cinnamon is used in cakes, cookies, and desserts throughout the world. In American cooking, Cinnamon is often paired with apples and used in other fruit and cereal dishes. Stick Cinnamon is used in pickling and for flavoring hot beverages. Besides the use of Cinnamon in sweets and desserts, it is used in curry sauces and seasonings. Cinnamon is used in savory chicken and lamb dishes from the Middle East.
Of course there is the recent connections being made between Cinnamon and diabetes. While cinnamon will not cure your diabetes, it may reduce the amount of insulin you need. It may also help prevent the onset of diabetes. If you do plan to incorporate cinnamon into your diet and you have diabetes then it is recommended that you discuss this with your doctor. If you do not have Diabetes then any precaution may be a good one. Add Cinnamon to your tea or coffee in the morning. You can even mix some into youmorning oatmeal. Aim for 1/4 to 1/2 tablesspoon of the spice everyday.
In asian medicine, Cinnamon is used for colds, nausea, and diarrhea. It's also believed to improve energy, vitality, circulation and be useful for people who feel hot in their upper body but have cold feet. In a study at Copenhagen University in Denmark, patients given half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder and just one tablespoon of honey every morning before breakfast had significant relief in arthritis pain after only one week and could walk with far less pain within one month. This alone is a good reason to consume this spice everyday.

Turmeric: Miracle superfood?
Much has been said of late about the health benefits of the
Indian spice Turmeric. Dr.
Mehmet Oz appeared on Oprah and made some positive statements about Turmeric and its powerful
phytonutrient curcumin. Turmeric seems to be getting famous for its medicinal properties and is finally getting its due. It seems that whenever Dr.Oz speaks, the world listens so maybe we had better take a good look at this spice made famous in Indian cuisine.
Turmeric was originally used as a dye, at least in ancient times. Its use as a spice goes back thousands of years. It is the primary spice in curry powder and used in various recipes. I like curry in most dishes since i sort of have a weakness for
Indian dishes. The
Thai curry dishes seem to be a bit too sweet for me. Hot curry sauce and
sauteed vegetables are a delicacy that makes my mouth water even now. I love the smell of curried chicken on the stove.
The medicinal uses of
turmeric go back to ancient times. Only recently has the scientific world started to sing the praises of turmeric and its effects on cancer tumors and Alzheimer's disease. There are many medicinal uses for this spice.
Curcumin may be of help to people whom suffer from arthritis, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and other health problems directly caused by inflammation. Not enough attention is given to the ravages of Inflammation that occur throughout the body. Eat lots of turmeric to take advantage of its anti-inflammatory powers.
Working this spice into your diet shouldn't be hard. Shake some ground turmeric or curry powder on your vegetables or rice at your next meal. You can buy turmeric in its fresh raw state at your local grocer or health food store. Or you can buy them in capsule form and take them with your food.

Eating Alkaline on the Grill
It's kind of tough to not eat a whole lot of acid foods when grilling during the summer months. Who doesn't have a weakness for the smell of chicken or steaks slowly cooking over hot coals. Even if you don't eat meat (or much of it), you still have to have some memories of a childhood experience that surrounds grilling in the family backyard. Eating a
high alkaline food diet can fit in with having a little summer fun. When you grow up in the deep south or for that matter, anywhere in America, you have to eat a little BBQ in the summertime.
There is such a thing as healthy eating during the grilling months. I follow the rule of eating 50-75% alkaline foods daily, so eating a little grilled chicken or beef ribs fit into my diet with no problem. What i have to do is simply make sure that i always have a wide variety of veggies on the grill to dominate my plate during my feasting. Most people who know me will do the same when inviting me over for cookouts. Besides, who doesn't have any veggies at a cookout? Corn soaked in the husk and put on the grill is a staple at
every bodies BBQ feast along with baked beans, potato salad and green bean salad. Every family has their own favorite grilling traditions and i don't mind sampling
every one's dishes. And somebody better bring a sweet potato pie.
It's not a crime to indulge in a high acid diet one day or two when enjoying the company of family and friends during summer. Just keep it in check by sticking to your high alkaline diet during the rest of the week. Learning
to cook your favorite alkaline foods on the grill is as easy as googling the words "grill veggies". The food network is always televising shows about grilling and veggies are covered all the time. Yes, you can eat healthy at the family cookout Remember. it's all about balance. You still have to enjoy life.
